Biohazard Cleanup from Sewage Disaster in Newburgh Heights

5/17/2018 (Permalink)

Water from sewer system backups should be handled with great caution and can be very dangerous if proper cleaning protocol is not used. The water can be unsanitary and may contain bacteria and viruses that could cause serious illness. SERVPRO of Beachwood and Cleveland Northeast has the crew with special training and equipment necessary to safely clean this type of contamination.

Sewage Backup or Toilet Overflow? Call Us Today at 216-464-4498

There are three major types of contaminated water. It is important to note that regardless of the color of water, contaminants may be present. SERVPRO of Beachwood and Cleveland Northeast will inspect that contaminated water to determine the type of water and then plan the appropriate response to safely restore your Euclid home or Shaker Heights business.

The Three Main Water Categories:

Category 1:

This is water from a clean source, such as a broken clean water supply line or faucet. If left untreated, Category 1 water lead to mold and can quickly degrade into Category 2 or 3 water depending upon factors as time, temperature, and contact with contaminants.

Category 2:

This water has a significant level of contamination that could cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Sources for Category 2 water may include washing machine overflow; toilet overflow with some urine but no feces; or dishwasher overflow. Category 2 water may contain bacteria and viruses and can lead to mold if untreated. Category 2 water can quickly degrade into Category 3 water if left untreated.

Category 3:

This water is grossly unsanitary and could cause severe illness or death if ingested, and any contact should be avoided. Category 3 water can contain pathogenic, toxigenic, or other harmful agents. Examples of Category 3 water includes but doesn't limit: sewage, toilet backflows that originate beyond toilet trap, all forms of flooding from seawater, ground surface water from rivers or streams, and other contaminated water from weather-related events that may contain silt, organic matter, pesticides, heavy metals, or toxic organic substances.
