Is It Illegal To Warm Your Car Up in Cleveland, OH?

1/5/2018 (Permalink)

Though it has been deemed illegal in Ohio to let your car idle (as of 2004), there have come a handful of exceptions from Ohio's Revised Code (2017).

The previous law (as made apparent by Cleveland19) enacted in 2004 states that:

"A law enacted in 2004 to combat car thefts says it is illegal to leave a vehicle unattended while the motor is running. Being caught walking away from your vehicle as the ice melts off your windshield could result in a minor misdemeanor.

The law precludes a clause for private property. Meaning idling your car in your driveway could also be a no-no in the eyes of the law."

However, WCPO9 states in 2017 that:

"According to Ohio's revised code, there are now exceptions to the ordinance. It doesn't apply to cars parked on residential property, a locked car parked anywhere, or emergency and public safety vehicles."
